Colosseum admission prices 2026

Prices in euros according to the official shop and the park’s regulations. Every ticket includes the Roman Forum and the Palatine; the difference is how far into the Colosseum you get and how long you may stay.

* Reduced fare for EU citizens from 18 until the day of their 25th birthday, with ID. Under 18 free (book the free ticket online), disabled visitors and their companion free, no senior discount. Roma Pass holders pay €11.50 or use the Colosseum as one of the pass’s free entries. Arena or underground: which Full Experience ticket is worth it?

• The 24h ticket (€18) is enough if you want to see and understand the Colosseum: from the second level you look down on the arena and the excavated corridors beneath it, with the Colosseum Museum and the panoramic terraces included. 75 minutes is tight but enough for a circuit.
• Full Experience Arena (€24) takes you onto the reconstructed arena floor on the eastern side, where the gladiators entered through the Porta Triumphalis. Looking up into the tiers from below is the moment most people come back for. The extra €6 is almost always worth it; the ticket can only be booked online 7 days ahead, but it is also sold at the ticket office on the day.
• Full Experience Underground and Arena (€24, €32 with a guided tour) is the most sought-after ticket: you walk through the hypogea in escorted groups of 25, past the lifts and cages where animals and scenery waited for their cue. The park releases only 8 tickets per purchase, sales open 30 days ahead, and in season the dates go within days. If you want the underground, book on the day it is released.
• Full Experience Attic (€24) rides the panoramic lift to the intermediate gallery and on to the third level and the attic, with the widest view over Rome; only 8 people per visit and only until 2:30 pm. 24h Only Arena (€18) is the fallback: 20 minutes on the arena floor without the tiers, when everything else has sold out.

Colosseum opening hours

Closed on 25 December and 1 January. The ticket office closes 75 minutes before the park, and the last time slot is an hour before closing. The SUPER sites open at 9:30 am and close an hour before the park; the House of Augustus is closed on Mondays and the House of Livia is currently under restoration. From March the park extends its hours again; unscheduled closures are announced on colosseo.it. The site is quietest in the first slot at 8:30 am and after 3 pm, and busiest between 10 am and 2 pm.

Buying tickets: official or through a provider?

Just the ticket? Buy it at the ticketing.colosseo.it, the only official shop of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. Sales open 30 days before the visit; you choose a time slot for the Colosseum (every 15 minutes) and enter a name for each ticket. Show the confirmation on your phone along with your ID. In season the morning slots are often sold out a week ahead, while afternoons usually have something left; the underground has to be booked on release day.

Want a guide, or is your date sold out? Then a provider makes sense. Operators accredited by the park hold their own allocations and sell ticket, time slot and guide together, even when the shop shows nothing for your day. Note: Tickets are personal, and the name can be changed only once and only up to seven days before the visit. If you book the wrong date, time or ticket type, nothing is refunded. Be at the entrance 15 minutes before your slot; if you arrive late you lose the Colosseum and keep only the Forum and Palatine. Do not buy from touts on the piazza or from any site calling itself “official” other than ticketing.colosseo.it.

Free admission and discounts

• Under 18: free. The free ticket is still booked online, and ID counts at the entrance.
• EU citizens aged 18 to 25: €2 until the day of the 25th birthday, with ID. Students from outside the EU pay full price.
• First Sunday of the month, 25 April, 2 June, 4 November: free, but only at the ticket office on Piazza del Colosseo in order of arrival, only the Colosseum, Forum, Palatine route or the Forum Pass, without the arena, underground, lift, upper levels and SUPER sites. The Domus Aurea does not take part. Expect long queues.
• Roma Pass: 48 hours €38, 72 hours €62.90, with public transport and one (48 h) or two (72 h) free entries. The Colosseum can be one of them, but you still have to reserve the time slot in the shop; as a further entry it costs €11.50. The pass pays off if you also plan the Capitoline Museums or Castel Sant’Angelo and use the metro.
• Disabled visitors and their companion, EU tour guides, ICOM members: free. Seniors pay full price.

The Colosseum with a guide: arena, underground, in your language

Little inside the Colosseum is labelled, and the 75 minutes of the standard ticket go quickly if you first have to work out where the imperial box was. A two-and-a-half-hour guided tour puts the Colosseum, the Forum and the Palatine in order, gets you through the time slot without your own booking and, if you wish, onto the arena floor or into the underground. Choose the language when booking.

Getting there: metro, tram, bus, on foot

The Colosseum stands on Piazza del Colosseo in the centre of Rome. Metro line B stops right outside (Colosseo station), and the new line C at Colosseo-Fori Imperiali. From Termini it is two stops on line B, about five minutes. Tram 3 stops at the Colosseum, as do buses 51, 75, 81, 85, 87 and 118. From the Vatican take metro line A to Termini and change to line B, about 30 minutes.

On foot, the Colosseum is ten minutes from Piazza Venezia along Via dei Fori Imperiali, with the Imperial Fora on either side; the Forum entrance at Largo della Salara Vecchia is halfway along. You do not need a car: the area around the Colosseum is a restricted traffic zone (ZTL) and there is no parking. If you arrive at Termini on the Leonardo Express from the airport, metro line B gets you there in a quarter of an hour.

Colosseum

Entrance for timed tickets near the Arch of Constantine at the Sperone Valadier, 15 minutes before your slot. Only Arena tickets enter via the Sperone Stern. The ticket office for free days and same-day sales is on Piazza del Colosseo by the Temple of Venus and Rome.

Roman Forum

Main entrance at Largo della Salara Vecchia 5/6 on Via dei Fori Imperiali (with ticket office), plus Via del Tulliano, the Via Sacra at the Arch of Titus from Piazza del Colosseo, and Via del Foro Romano 1.

Palatine

Via di San Gregorio 30, south of the Arch of Constantine. Usually the shortest queue; from here you walk down through the Farnese Gardens into the Forum and come out at the Arch of Titus.

Security check

Scanners and metal detectors at every entrance. Hand luggage no larger than 30 × 40 × 15 cm, no cloakroom, no left luggage. Glass bottles, knives, trekking poles, helmets, large backpacks, suitcases, selfie sticks, tripods, drones, laser pointers and costumes are not allowed.

Around the Colosseum: Roman Forum, Palatine, Domus Aurea, Capitoline Museums

The Roman Forum and the Palatine are included in every ticket and take two to three hours together: the Forum with the Curia, the Arch of Titus and the House of the Vestals, and above it the Palatine with the imperial palaces, the House of Augustus and the view over the Circus Maximus. The SUPER sites (House of Augustus, Santa Maria Antiqua, Curia Iulia, Domus Tiberiana, Palatine Museum) are included in the Full Experience tickets and the Forum Pass; with the 24h ticket they cost a €4 supplement. The Imperial Fora with Trajan’s Forum are linked in through the Forum Pass.

The Domus Aurea, Nero’s Golden House beneath the Oppian Hill, is open Friday to Sunday only (entrance on Via della Domus Aurea, off Via Labicana) and has its own ticket: €26 with a guided tour and virtual reality, €18 entry only at 12 noon and 5 pm. It stays closed on the first Sunday of the month. The Capitoline Museums on the Capitoline Hill belong to the City of Rome, not to the park: daily 9:30 am to 7:30 pm, €16.50 (reduced €11), with the Capitoline Wolf, the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius and the view from the Tabularium across the whole Forum.
